September 7, 2007

My Period A, D and E classes have all taken their test on  A Lesson Before Dying.  If your child was absent on Thursday or Friday for English Class then they must arrange to take the test ASAP with me.

 During the week of September 10th through the 15th the English classes will be writing a rought draft for A Lesson Before Dying based on who they consider to be heroes in the book.  If any student is absent they need to come to room 116 to get the skills sheet for the essay.  Due dates for the essay will be established next week.

We will also begin an introduction to mythology and each student will receive an assignment to be handed out in class where they are responsible for doing a mythology project. Due dates and pages will be assigned next week.

Seniors - A reminder that you should be selling magazines so we can add some money to our treasury for your senior activities.

All seniors have now taken their test on A Lesson Before Dying.  If you were absent and have not made up the test you need to see me as soon as possible to make up the test.

Monday September 24, 2007

Period A and Period E classes have their final copy of their essay for A Lesson Before Dying due.  Be sure to include your skills sheet, rought draft and the final copy when handing in your report.

Also, you have a mythology report due on Monday as well.  Each student has been assigned a section to read in the mythology book and you are to do a project based on the sections read.  These projects can be posters, story boards or any type of visual aide that will help you to explain your passages.  If you don't know what pages you were assigned please see me right away.

Period D class - you have your final copy of your report due on A Lesson Before Dying on Tuesday Sept. 25, 2007.  Be sure to include the skills sheet, the rough draft and the final report. 

You also will be presenting your sections from mythology that have been assigned to you.  Be sure to have a visual aid whether it is a poster, story board or some other form of visuals.  If you don't know what pages you were assigned please see me right away.

THURSDAY OCTOBER 11, 2007

SENIOR ENGLISH - PERIOD A, D, E

We are now reading Oedipus The King.  We have finished the PROLOGOS, PARADOS AND EPISODE 1.  You need to see me if you have not completed the questions for the prologos, parados and Episode 1.  Also, you have had a quiz on the Prologos and Parados and you need to see me to make this up.

At the moment you have 3 test grades - Test on A Lesson Before Dying, paper on heroes for A Lesson before Dying and a Mythology Project.  In addition, you have had a number of written assignments for Oedipus the KING.

Seniors Period A, D and E

On October 29th Periods A and E will take their test for Oedipus

On October 30th Period D will take their test on Oedipus

As of 10/22/07 all seniors should have finished reading Oedipus in class.  On Thursday 10/18 and Friday 10/18 the seniors had homeowrk completing the questions on Creon.  They are due on the 10/22 (D block) and 10/23 (A andE block).  So far the students have completed work on the prologue, parados, Tereisias and Creon.  This week (10/22 to 10/26)we will complete questions on the Corinthian messenger and unraveling the mystery of Oedipus. 

All seniors will be doing a project on Oedipus as well as a test.  This project grade will go next semester.

Each senior has to make a story board or a story book showing the plot of Oedipus.  They must label all their pictures and they must have dialogue.    They can tell the story as it really happened in chronological order or they can tell the story according to how it is presented in the play.  All seniors must draw pictures of their story and they can be stick people.  These story boards or books will be due on November 1, 2007 for D Block, and November 2, 2007 for A and E Block.

 

NOVEMBER 2, 2007

PERIOD A, E, AND D  HAVE ALL BEGUN THE INTRODUCTION OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE IN ORDER TO PREPARE FOR THE READING OF HAMLET.

IF YOU WERE ABSENT YOU NEED TO GET THE 20 QUESTIONS TO RESEARCH THE LIFE OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE.  ALSO, THERE IS AN ARTICLE WITH AN ANTICIPATORY ACTIVITIY THAT YOU NEED TO GET IN ORDER TO BE PREPARED FOR INFORMATION BASED ON THE GLOBE THEATER.

WE WILL BEGIN READING HAMLET NEXT WEEK.  THERE WILL BE NOTES GIVEN AT THE END OF EVERY CLASS BASED ON WHAT THE STUDENTS HAVE READ.  YOU WILL NEED TO SPEAK TO A FRIEND TO GET THEIR NOTES FOR THAT DAY.  IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WHEN WE START READING HAMLET THAT YOU KEEP UP WITH THE READINGS OR YOU WILL EASILY GET CONFUSED.

Senior English Block A, Block D, Block E

We have now finished Act I in Hamlet.  All students should have read all five scenes and they should have notes for each of the scenes.  You are responsible for doing a 3-2-1 activity for Act I Scene I and Act I all 5 scenes.

3  Choose 3 characters from Act Scene 1 and describe who they are and what did they learn

2  Choose two quotes you think are important.

1  Summarize what Act I Scene I is all about

3  Choose 3 characters from Act 1 and describe their reactions to Prince Hamlet when they meet him.  Show whether this reaction is a positive or negative reaction.

2  Choose 2 quotes from Act 1 that show how Prince Hamlet felt about the death of his father and the marriage of his mother.

1  Summarize what you think is the most important information you learn from scene 1, scene 2, scene 3, scene 4, scene 5.

Also, all English IV students need to do the questions on Act 1 Hamlet for homework over the Thanksgiving vacation.  These questions will be considered a quiz grade.

When we return we will continue with Hamlet - the readings and the notes.

Seniors Block A, Block D and Block E - Hamlet Information

Remember if you are out while reading any part of Hamlet you need to get notes from your fellow classmates for the sections you have missed.

All seniors are reading ACT III in HAMLET.

At this point in time you should have completed questions for Act I and Act II.

You should have done a 3-2-1 activitiy for Act I and Act II.

You should have taken a quiz on Act I and Act II.

You should have completed an explanation of what Shakespeare's famous  To Be or Not To Be speech is all about.

Previously you should have a 3-2-1 explanation of the Globe article and and answered questions about Shakespeare's life.

 

My plans are to have finished reading all of Hamlet before the Christmas vacation.  So if you are absent you need to see me immediately to find out what you need to do to catch up.    

 

THEATER ARTS - A REMINDER THAT THIS COURSE IS BASED ON WHAT YOU DO IN CLASS AND ABSENCES DO AFFECT YOUR GRADE. 

 

JANUARY 3, 2008     ENGLISH IV WORK FOR BLOCK A,D,& E

We are now finishing reading Hamlet - we are on Act V and will finish the Act by January 8th. 

There are questions for Act I, II, III, IV, and V.  You need to see me in room 115 or 116 to get the questions.  Also, you have a number of 3-2-1 activities for Act I, II, III, IV and V.  

If you owe any of the questions up to Act V be sure and bring them to me as soon as possible.  I have been telling all students who owe me work what they owe.  If you think you are behind or have been absent a lot please see me to get your assignments.

I plan on having a test on Hamlet on Monday, January 14th for Block D.

I plan on having a test on Hamlet on Tuesday, January 15th for Blcok A and C.  

I have given you a link for preparation for your mid term senior exam.  Remember this is one of your graduation requirements and you need to do a good job on your essay for the senior mid-term exam.

January 25th through February 1st - 2008

Senior Classes - Block A,D,E

We are now writing essays for Hamlet - all students have chosen their topic in class.  All students will be required to hand in their skills sheet, an outline, the corrected rough draft which they are doing in class and the final copy.   All students are required to write their roughdraft for the essay in class.   

The rough drafts are due  Tuesday(1/29/08) for Block D    Rough Drafts are due Wednesday (1/30/08) for Block A & E.

The final copies for the Hamlet essays will be due on February 14th  - Block D;  February 15th - Block AE 

All essays for HAMLET should have been handed in by now.  I contacted your parents if you are late with your essay.

We are now working on DEATH OF A SALESMAN in class. 

February 25, 2008 

We have finished reading ACT I and all questions for Act I should have been handed in (if you the Act I questions see me in class).  Also, there was a 3-2-1 activity for Act I  which should have been handed in.

Explain 3 things Willy has a problem with in the beginning of Act I.

Give 2 quotes showing Biff's philosophy on life and Happy's philosophy on life.  Be sure to explain the 2 quotes.

Choose one quote that shows a personality trait for Willy and explain.

We are now reading Act II and we will finish the play by Friday 2/29.

Beginning in the first week of March we are going to be writing a persuasive essay.  You need to choose a controversial topic which I will have to approve.  This is the second graduation requirement for seniors. 

SENIORS HAVE JUST TAKEN THE TEST FOR FOR DEATH OF A SALESMAN.

DURING THE WEEK OF MARCH 10TH TO THE 14TH ALL SENIORS ARE WRITING A ROUGH DRAFT FOR THE PERSUASIVE ESSAY WHICH IS THE 3RD MARKING PERIOD ASSESSMENT.

THE PERSUASIVE ESSAYS ARE DUE FOR BLOCK A AND E ON MARCH 20TH.

THE PERSUASIVE ESSAY FOR BLOCK D IS DUE ON MARCH 19TH.

ALL ESSAYS SHOULD INCLUDE THE OUTLINE, ROUGH DRAFT, HARD COPIES OF THEIR FACTS, FIGURES AND DATA AND A SKILLS SHEET.

At this time all seniors are reading Lord of the Flies - we have completed the first 3 chapters.

Seniors you will be taking 80% of your final exam for college level classes on May 6th, tuesday, in the first block.
